Frequently Asked Questions

Watz Academy offers two tracks: team programs for the competitive season and year-round individual and group training. Team programs include practices, development sessions, and league or tournament play, depending on the tier. Training programs are booked directly through us and scheduled around Coach Watson's availability.

Every session at Watz Academy is built around the athlete in front of us, so there is always a level of individual attention built into the work. For athletes with specific development goals or unique scheduling needs, reach out directly, and we will find the best fit from our available program options.

Individual training is $125 per hour, with a 5-session pack at $625 and a 10-session pack at $1,250. Exclusive small group training is $100 per drop-in or $450 for a 5-workout package. Group workout drop-ins are $65 per session. Team program pricing varies by tier and season; reach out for current rates.

Training sessions are held on Mondays and Wednesdays at Carlsbad High School & 24 Fitness Carlsbad Mall from 6 PM to 9 PM. Once you join our youth AAU teams, you get access to our app to see all practices and games.

Team programs are available for athletes ages 10U through 15U. Year-round training programs serve youth, middle school, and high school athletes. High school athletes interested in training are accepted by evaluation only.

Yes. Coach Devin Watson personally oversees all evaluations and tryouts. There are no third-party evaluators or assistants making placement decisions. Every athlete is assessed directly by the person who will be coaching them.

Some level of prior experience is expected across most of our programs. Watz Academy is a performance-based development program, not an introduction to the sport. Athletes with little to no experience may be better served starting elsewhere and coming back when they are ready to compete and be coached at this level.

Session and program fees are generally non-refundable. In the event that Watz Academy cancels a session, affected athletes will be offered a makeup session or credit. For personal cancellations or withdrawals, reach out directly, and we will work through it on a case-by-case basis.

Athletes are expected to bring their own basketball and appropriate athletic gear to all sessions and practices. Returning players will wear the uniforms already issued at no additional cost. New players who do not have a current Watz Academy uniform will need to purchase one, which takes approximately two weeks to receive.

Yes, tournament fees are separate from the monthly season fee. Each tournament ranges from $400 to $550 per team and is split evenly among rostered players, so the individual cost per athlete depends on roster size. Families will be notified of tournament costs in advance through the Playbook app.
